FOREIGN MINISTRY STATEMENT – THE SITUATION IN CHECHNYA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel expresses its deep concern with regard to the situation in Chechnya. Although Israel continues to view the Chechnya crisis as an internal matter of the Russian Federation, it is worried by the loss of life on both sides, especially among the civilian population.

Israel calls on the Government of the Russian Federation to make every effort to find a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

Israel, for its part, is ready to help relieve the suffering of the population by extending humanitarian aid to the civilians of Chechnya. This aid can be coordinated with the federal authorities.
