FM Dir-Gen Bentsur to Host Israel Ambassadors to Latin America

Foreign Minister Director-General Eytan Bentsur will host a convention of Israeli Ambassadors to Latin America in Buenos Aires between 19-21.8.98. The convention will focus on the Foreign Ministry’s intensified efforts to deepen relations between Israel and the countries of the region.

Bentsur will meet Argentine Foreign Minister Guido di Tella to update him on the peace process and to receive information regarding the investigation on the terrorist attacks on the Israeli Embassy and the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, as well as economic issues. Afterwards, he will meet Uruguayan Foreign Minister Didier Opertti Badan, who will begin his term as President of the United Nations General Assembly at its next session. Bentsur will discuss this issue and ways to deepen Israeli economic relations with Mercusor (a common market consisting of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay).

Israel’s trade with Latin America has risen by 15% in the first six months of 1998, amounting to $390 million dollars for the period.
