|50th Anniversary of Israel Membership in UN|
(Communicated by Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
Foreign Minister Ariel Sharon will represent Israel at events marking the 50th anniversary of Israel’s membership in the United Nations.
Tomorrow (Tuesday), 11.5.99, at a ceremony to be attended by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, Israel will present the United Nations with the gift of a stone lintel — decorated with Jewish symbols — from a Roman period synagogue in Kfar Yassif in the Galilee.
In the evening, the Israeli delegation to the United Nations will host a reception and dinner for over 100 ambassadors accredited to the United Nations, who will be addressed by Secretary-General Annan, Foreign Minister Sharon, Dr. Henry Kissinger and Mr. Abba Eban. During the dinner, a special film highlighting Israel’s international aid efforts will be screened.
Foreign Minister Sharon will arrive in New York tomorrow morning, and return to Israel immediately following the day’s events.
