FM Director General Meets with Dutch Ambassador

Foreign Ministry Director-General Eytan Bentsur met yesterday (Monday), 15.2.99, at his request, with Dutch Ambassador to Israel Como van Hellenberg Hubar. Mr. Bentsur emphasized the desire of the Israeli government to continue full and open cooperation with the Dutch parliamentary committee investigating the 1992 El Al plane crash in Amsterdam. He noted that Civil Aviation Authority Director Avner Yarkoni has left for the Netherlands at the behest of Transportation Minister Shaul Yahalom, in order to cooperate with the Dutch authorities and the parliamentary committee. This visit is an additional step in a series of actions taken by Israel in order to aid the work of the investigation committee.

Mr. Bentsur noted the friendship and admiration that have always characterized Israeli-Dutch relations. He added that it is clear to both parties that everything must be done in order to prevent the affair from damaging the fabric of the special relationship between the two countries.
