FM Levy and Jordanian FM to Open Bridge over Jordan

Foreign Minister David Levy and Jordanian Foreign Minister al-Hatib and the Chairman of the lower house of the Japanese Diet Mr. Koki Chuma will tomorrow (Monday) 23.8.99, dedicate the new Sheikh Hussein bridge across the Jordan. The construction of the bridge was financed by Japan. Following the ceremony, the foreign ministers will hold a private meeting.

The bridge project is part of the Japanese contribution to strengthen peace following the signing of the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan in October 1994. The construction of the bridge began immediately afterwards, and was completed on schedule. The bridge will be used by tourists and for the transport of goods. It has four lanes and is expected to meet regional needs for the next 20 years.
