Foreign Ministry Reaction to the Conference of the Signatories of the Geneva Convention

(Communicated by Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
15 July 1999

The goal of the conference was inherently political.

Such an event obstructs the peace process and does not further its advancement.

Israel is not prepared to agree to the Palestinians’ continued attempts to confront Israel and clash with it in international fora, alongside the peace process.

It should be noted that most of the participating countries pointed out the conference’s poor timing and emphasized that there was no real reason for it to take place.

One-third of the signatory countries – including the United States, Australia and Canada – refused to take part in this illusionary show.
