Israeli-Jordanian Meeting to Coordinate 2000 Events

(Communicated by Tourism Ministry Spokeswoman)

Tourism Ministry Director-General Shabtai Shai will, next Monday, 28.6.99, leave for Jordan at the head of an official delegation, including — inter alia — representatives of the Tourism, Interior and Foreign Ministries. He will meet with his Jordanian counterpart, Dr. Alia Hatouj Jouran and representatives of her ministry, to discuss coordination of the two countries’ official year 2000 events, so as to avoid competition and heighten the attraction of the region in the year 2000 to Christian tourism.

This will be the second meeting to be held on this subject; the first was in December 1996.

Easing the border-crossing process for Christian pilgrims passing between the two countries — on the assumption that some groups of pilgrims who will visit the Holy Land will arrive at Jordan’s Aqaba airport — will also be discussed, as will be joint marketing of the millennium, particularly in North America, Latin America and Europe.
