Belgium Hosts Joint Israeli-Palestinian Economic Conference

The Ministry of Industry and Trade today (Tuesday) 29.2.2000, has announced that a joint Israeli-Palestinian economic conference was successfully held last week in Charleroi, Belgium. The purpose of the conference was to publicize business and investment opportunities in Israel and the Palestinian Authority to 120 Belgian firms, especially in the high-tech and medical equipment fields, banks, investors, economic advisory firms and universities.

Investments Promotions Center Director Max Livnat met with representative of Belgian companies, the Belgian government investment company and other officials in order to explain the advantages of investing in Israel. He noted that Israel is very interested in Belgian investment and in joint projects with the Palestinian Authority.

Minister of Industry and Trade Ran Cohen said the conference’s success is an example of the developing economic relations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which will help the diplomatic dialogue as well. The conference is a positive sign to the business community that the region can be seen as potentially stable and an appropriate place for foreign investment.
