June 27, 2000

Following the entry into force of the Association Agreement between Israel and the EU at the beginning of June, and the meeting held between Foreign Minister David Levy and the Association Council in Luxembourg on June 13, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be holding a special one-day seminar tomorrow (June 28) on this subject.

The seminar, which will take place in the Ministry in Jerusalem, will be opened by the Director General of the Foreign Ministry, Eytan Bentsur, with the participation of the Ambassador of the EU in Israel, Jean-Paul Jesse; the Israeli Ambassador to the EU (Brussels) Harry Knei-Tal; Deputy Director General for Western Europe, Ehud Gol; and Deputy Director General for Economic Affairs, Victor Harel.

The aim of the seminar is to update senior government officials and others regarding the various aspects of the Association Agreement, and to hold a discussion on the issue. The participants will discuss, among other things, the broadening of the Agreement, which has focused largely on trade, agriculture, and customs, to include new areas such as communications, transport, education, environment and others.
