IDF condemns Palestinian use of Red Crescent facilities to shoot at Psagot
(Communicated by the IDF Spokesman)

Last night (Tuesday), 31.10.2000, many bursts of gunfire were directed at the community of Psagot from inside Ramallah. The IDF pinpointed its return fire at the sources of the shooting.

In one instance, shots were fired at Psagot from inside the Red Crescent building in Ramallah. In another instance, shots were fired at Psagot from a Red Crescent ambulance as it traveled towards Psagot. In both cases, the IDF did not return fire.

The IDF strongly condemns this phenomenon and views the fact that a Red Crescent building and a Red Crescent ambulance were used to shoot at an Israeli community with utmost severity.

The Red Crescent is supposed to provide medical and humanitarian assistance. Using its ambulances and buildings to carry out shooting attacks and acts of violence constitutes a dangerous escalation by the Palestinian Authority, which bears the responsibility of putting an end to the violence and restoring calm.
