Minister of Foreign Affairs David Levy welcomed the announcement of the renewal of diplomatic relations between the State of Israel and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka made yesterday by the President of Sri Lanka, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunfa.

The resumption of relations with Sri Lanka, which had previously severed the ties, is an important step in strengthening Israel’s foreign relations with the international community. Currently, Israel is continuing its contacts to renew or establish diplomatic relations with additional states within the Middle East and throughout the world.

In the coming days, an official delegation from Sir Lanka will arrive in Israel to discuss the details of the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two states.
