Briefing of Ambassadors by Deputy FM Melchior

(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson)
July 24, 2001

On Wednesday, July 25, the Deputy Foreign Minister, Rabbi Melchior, will hold a briefing in Jerusalem for the foreign Ambassadors posted in Israel. The subject of the briefing will be Israel’s participation in the Conference Against Racism. The Conference, due to open on September 1 in Durban, South Africa, is being convened under the auspices of the United Nations.

At this briefing, which is the joint initiative of the Foreign Ministry, the ADL and its director Abe Foxman, the Deputy Foreign Minister will focus on the subject of "the new antisemitism."

In the last month, Israel’s ambassadors abroad have held meetings with the foreign ministries of the countries in which they serve, in order to explain Israel’s point of view. This briefing is part of the campaign to prevent the politicization of the UN Conference and the delegitimization of Israel.
