Deputy FM meets with Mitchell Committee Technical Team

(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson)
March 27, 2001

Deputy Foreign Minister Rabbi Michael Melchior met today (March 27) with the technical team of the Mitchell Fact-Finding Committee. While expressing the great shock of the Israeli people at the terrible murder of Shalhevet Pass, a ten month-old baby, the Deputy Foreign Minister placed the blame on the Palestinian Authority. He emphasized that the conclusions of the Mitchell Committee regarding the causes of the present violence should not allow the Palestinians to conclude that terrorism is beneficial.

Rabbi Melchior added: "All Israeli governments should regret that they did not fight Palestinian incitement, not so that they could stop the peace process but rather so that they could advance it in a positive manner".
