The Foreign Minister of Mauritania, Dah Ould Abdi, arrives today (May 22) in Israel for a two-day visit. The Minister will be accompanied by the Chief of State Protocol and the Head of the Department of Middle East Affairs in the Mauritanian Foreign Ministry.

During his visit, the Minister will meet with the President of Israel, Moshe Katzav, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Foreign Minister Peres and the Minister for Regional Cooperation, Tzipi Livni.

In addition, the Minister will meet with members of the Israeli-Mauritanian Parliamentary Friendship Association who visited Mauritania last year, together with the Chairman of the Foreign and Defence Affairs Committee and the leader of the opposition.

Israel welcomes the policy of Mauritania under the leadership of President Ould-Taya, of being an Islamic Arab state which maintains full diplomatic relations with Israel – thus contributing to the promotion of dialogue, while demonstrating a courageous commitment to the achievement of peace in the region.
