Foreign Minister Shimon Peres met on Wednesday, December 19, with the ambassadors of the European Union in Israel.

Foreign Minister Peres said that Europe can perform a useful service by making it clear to Arafat that he has no choice but to act against the terrorist organizations and to impose one central authority in the territories, for the sake of the future of his people.

Peres appealed to the European ambassadors, asking them to take action to close the offices of the Hamas and other terrorist organizations in Syria, and to halt the terrorist activity directed by the headquarters in Damascus.

The Foreign Minister added that if a cease-fire will be achieved, there will be a change in Israeli public opinion, and it will be possible to resume the peace process with the aim of reaching an agreement.
