Foreign Ministry Response to Statement by Norwegian State Secretary

(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson)
March 29, 2001

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs views with great concern the irresponsible statement made by the State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry of Norway according to which Norway views Palestinian attacks on Israeli soldiers as legitimate.

Israel expects that a country like Norway, where the peace process began, would do everything possible to prevent violence. The recent comment made by the State Secretary serves to encourage violence and terrorism. Israel very strongly condemns this statement.
