PM Sharon to UN Secy.-Gen. Annan: Israel demands all information on abducted IDF soldiers; Palestinians must be pressured to halt terrorism, violence and incitement

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon yesterday evening (Monday), July 9, 2001, telephoned UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and demanded that the UN hand over to Israel all material it has that could shed light on the fate of IDF soldiers St.-Sgt. Binyamin Avraham, Sgt. Adi Avitan and St.-Sgt. Omar Sawaid.
Prime Minister Sharon repeated Israel’s demand to receive a sign of life from the abductees in Lebanon and explained that this is a basic humanitarian demand.
Prime Minister Sharon also emphasized that continuous international pressure must be applied so that there will be halt to Palestinian terrorism, violence and incitement.
"Israel will not conduct negotiations under pressure and violence; progress will be possible only when there is complete quiet," the Prime Minister said.
