Security Cabinet hears briefing on security events of the past days

The Ministerial Committee on National Security (Security Cabinet) convened this morning (Sunday), December 2, 2001, at the Prime Minister’s Tel Aviv office. Foreign Minister Shimon Peres chaired the meeting as acting Prime Minister in the absence of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. The Security Cabinet heard briefings on the security events of the past days in which many Israeli civilians were killed and wounded.

The Security Cabinet unanimously approved the urgent proposals put forward by Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer and Chief of Staff Shaul Mofaz.

Continuation of the deliberations on security policy will take place upon the return of Prime Minister Sharon from the US.

Foreign Minister Peres, the Security Cabinet and the government, share in the heavy grief of the victims’ families, and wish the wounded a full and speedy recovery.
