US Secretary of State Colin Powell to Visit Israel

Secretary of State Colin Powell will arrive Saturday evening on his first working visit (24-25 February) to Israel.

During his stay, the Secretary of State will meet with the President of Israel Moshe Katsav, Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Prime Minister-elect Ariel Sharon. He will visit Yad Vashem Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Memorial, laying a wreath in the Hall of Remembrance.

The visit will enable the Secretary to closely examine the challenges facing Israel today. Official talks will focus on bilateral relations between the two countries, Israel’s relations with the Palestinians, the situation along the northern border, relations between Israel and the Arab states, as well as regional issues that concern the United States and Israel. Ways of stopping the violence in the territories and advancing the peace process will also be discussed.
