Visit of Belgian FM to Israel

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Belgium, Louis Michel, will arrive in Israel for a working visit on Sunday April 22, within the framework of a regional trip. The visit takes place prior to the Belgian presidency of the EU which takes effect on July 1, 2001.

In the course of the visit, the Belgian Foreign Minister will meet with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, Chairman of the Knesset Foreign and Defence Affairs Committee, MK Dan Meridor, he will make an official visit to Yad Vashem, and will lay a wreath on the grave of late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

The Minister will be accompanied by a delegation of Belgian members of parliament representing the various parties in the Belgian parliament.

This is the first official visit of Minister Louis Michel to Israel, since he assumed his position in July 1999.
