Visit of Cardinal Kasper

Cardinal Walter Kasper, the President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and Chairman of the Commission of Religious Relations with Jews arrived yesterday (November 19) in Israel for a four-day visit. This is his first visit to Israel, since his appointment to these positions, in March 2001.

Cardinal Walter Kasper will be the guest of the Interreligious Coordinating Council in Israel (ICCI). The aim of the visit is to enable him to become acquainted with the Israeli public, with interreligious dialogue groups, as well as to gain an understanding of Israeli public opinion, in general.

During the visit, he will meet with the President of Israel, the Chief Rabbis, the Deputy Foreign Minister and with leading figures from the Humanities field and Jewish spiritual leaders. Cardinal Kasper will also lay a wreath at Yad Vashem – The Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority, he will visit the Western Wall and the Hebrew University, in Jerusalem.

The Cardinal will deliver a public lecture at the Israel Museum on November 21.
