Visit of EU Presidency Delegation to Israel

A delegation of the EU Presidency, headed by the Prime Minister of Belgium, Guy Verhofstadt, and the President of the EU Commission, Romano Prodi, will arrive on Sunday, November 18, for a visit to Israel.

The delegation will also include the Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium, Louis Michel, and the EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana.

As a matter of course, each EU Presidency conducts a visit of the Middle East. The delegation will also visit Egypt, the Palestinian Authority, Jordan and Syria.

The visit to Israel will focus on the developing framework of relations between the EU and Israel. In addition, the delegation will discuss the issues of global terrorism and the peace process.

The guests will meet with the President of Israel, Moshe Katzav, the Knesset Speaker, Mr. Avraham Burg, Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Shimon Peres.
