Visit to Israel of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Luxembourg

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Luxembourg, Ms. Lydie Polfer, will arrive today in Israel for an official visit.

During her visit, Ms. Polfer will meet with the President of Israel, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Knesset and Members of Knesset from the various parties. The Minister will also visit "Yad Vashem" and the grave of the Late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

In light of recent events in Israel, and the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres to the United States, Ms. Lydie Polfer will be hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Rabbi Michael Melchior.

Ms. Polfer is visiting Israel, as part of a tour of the region. This is her first visit to Israel.

Luxembourg has a population of half a million residents, and is one of the 15 member-states of the European Union (it is one of the founding members). Luxembourg has a Jewish community of around 1,000 people.
