German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Israel Saturday evening as part of a three-day Mid-East tour.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived Saturday evening (31 March), on the second leg of a three-day Mid-East tour.
The Chancellor was met at the airport by Minister of Social Affairs and Services Isaac Herzog, and then met with Prime Minister Olmert at his official residence in Jerusalem.

Today (Sunday, 1 April), the Chancellor will meet with Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni and Likud Chairman MK Benjamin Netanyahu. She will attend a wreath laying ceremony at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial and then proceed to the Mount Scopus campus of the Hebrew University, where she will meet with Hebrew University President Prof. Menachem Megidor and receive an honorary doctorate.

Chancellor Merkel will also visit the Palestinian Authority for a separate meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas. Earlier in her trip, she met with King Abdullah of Jordan in Aqaba.  She is also due to meet with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora.

She will depart on Monday morning, after a joint press conference with Prime Minister Olmert on Sunday evening.
