Members of the Diplomatic Corps enjoy a day of sport enrichment at the Wingate Institute under the auspices of the Ministry of Science, Culture and Sport, together with the Wingate Institute and in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Science, Culture and Sport, together with the Wingate Institute- Israel’s National Center for Physical Education and Sport, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a Sport Enrichment Day on 12-April-2007 for the diplomatic Corps in Israel.

Forty diplomats participated in this day including The Ambassador of Japan, The Ambassador of Korea, The Ambassador of Slovakia, The Ambassador of South Africa, and the Consul of the Philippines.

The Minister of Science, Culture and Sport Mr. Galeb Majadle welcomed the honored guests and mentioned that sport is a means as well as  a target of building bridges between cultures and nations. Minister Majadle invited the diplomats to promote cooperation through various branches of sport with the Wingate Institute. The Wingate Institute plays an important role in promoting the co-existence between different nations and different religions.

Dr. Yehoshua Dekel,Deputy Director General of the Ministry, and Director of Sport Authority, outlined the structure of sport in Israel and the activities of the Ministry in promoting competitive and achievement-oriented sport, and also popular sport in Israel.

Dr. Uri Schaefer, Director of the Wingate Institute, presented the Wingate Institute and its activities and mentioned the important role of the Institute in promoting and fostering peace in our region.

The guests had a guided tour of the campus: The School of Coaches; The Sport Medicine and Research Center; The International Jewish Sport Hall of Fame. They also visited several sport amenities: The Elite Sport Hall, the Weider Gym, The Berlin Gymnastics Hall, The Coca Cola Activity Center, and the swimming pool.

During the tour some guests expressed their interest in creating and promote cooperation or to renew Agreements in the area of sport.
