(Communicated by the Foreign Minister’s Bureau)

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni met on Monday (13 August) with a high-level delegation representing key figures in European Jewish leadership. The delegation was headed by the president of the European Jewish Congress, Moshe Kantor. Other participants included the President of the French Jewish community (CRIF) Richard Prasquier, the President of the German Jewish Community (Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland) Charlotte Knobloch, the Chief Rabbi of Moscow Pinchas Goldschmidt and Dr. Oded Eran, Director of the Jerusalem office of the World Jewish Congress.

Minister Livni talked with the visitors about their common Israeli-Jewish-European agenda. After agreeing that Iran presents a global threat to every society in the world, they discussed ways of stopping Iran through coordinated European efforts.

The foreign minister stressed the urgency of the subject and noted that, as the central tools in the struggle, the Security Council resolutions as well as the economic sanctions must be intensified. Of equal importance is to increase awareness of the Iranian threat among the public in Europe.
