The Security Cabinet met this morning (Wednesday), 6 June 2007, to discuss the situation on the northern border. Most of the meeting was devoted to security and diplomatic briefings on developments in both Syria and Lebanon.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that Israel was interested in peace with Syria: "Israel does not want war with Syria. We must avoid miscalculations that are liable to lead to a security deterioration." The Prime Minister added that Israel is acting on various diplomatic channels in order to deliver this message to Syria.
