Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met today (Monday), 19 February 2007, with a joint US Senate and House of Representatives delegation including Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ), Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA), Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and Rep. Steve Pearce (R-NM). They discussed – inter alia – developments in Iraq and their significance vis-a-vis regional stability.
On the Iranian issue, Prime Minister Olmert presented the tangible threat Iran poses to regional stability and the great danger of a nuclear Iran.
Prime Minister Olmert updated the delegation on this morning’s trilateral meeting with Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas and US Secretary of State Dr. Condoleeza Rice.
The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the American administration’s attempts to create momentum for the process in the region, emphasized Israel’s unequivocal stand to neither recognize nor cooperate with any Palestinian government or section thereof as long as it does not accept the international community’s three principles. The Prime Minister also made it clear that he will continue the direct link with PA President Abbas in order to discuss ways of improving the Palestinian people’s quality of life and to continue a genuine struggle against Palestinian terrorism.
