Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met today (Thursday), 1 November 2007, with Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Secretary-General Angel Gurria.
OECD Secy.-Gen. Gurria expressed his appreciation of Israel’s preparations for OECD membership. Prime Minister Olmert thanked him for his visit and for the offer for Israel to join the OECD, which is very significant for the State of Israel. The Prime Minister also underscored his appreciation of the OECD Secy.-Gen.’s personal involvement in the decision to begin Israel’s accession process.
Prime Minister Olmert said that Israel’s candidacy for full OECD membership is the direct result of Israel’s economic achievements and the strength of the Israeli economy. He expressed his confidence that Israel’s advancement from observer to full OECD member would be an important contribution both to Israel and to the organization.
The two men voiced their hope that the candidacy and acceptance process would be concluded in a timely fashion.
