(Communicated by the Prime Minister’s Media Adviser)

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert this afternoon (Sunday), 2 December 2007, met with South Korean Foreign Minister Song Min-Soon. The Prime Minister recalled his positive January 2005 visit to South Korea as Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor, and noted that he was impressed both by South Korea’s economic development and by the progress in bilateral economic relations.

The two men discussed – inter alia – the dangers of global nuclear proliferation, including in regard to North Korea. Prime Minister Olmert emphasized the danger of the regional and global threat should Iran advance its nuclear program. He noted Iran’s gross violations of UN Security Council decisions and emphasized the importance of the economic sanctions imposed on Iran, including those that bypass the Security Council.

The South Korean Foreign Minister invited Prime Minister Olmert to visit South Korea in his capacity as Prime Minister.
