(Communicated by the Prime Minister’s Media Adviser)

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert last night (Wednesday), 15 August 2007, met with Nicholas Burns, the US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, who arrived in Israel to sign a Memorandum of Understanding regarding $30 billion in US aid to Israel over the next ten years.

Prime Minister Olmert requested that the Undersecretary of State convey his appreciation and thanks to US President George Bush and to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on their efforts to bring about the understandings, reached between President Bush and himself during his last US visit.

Prime Minister Olmert noted that the aid agreement with the US is a significant component for Israel and proves once again the profundity of the relationship between the two countries and the commitment of the US to Israel’s security and to ensuring its qualitative edge.
