Canadian FM Mr. Maxim Bernier arrived yesterday on an official three-day visit to Israel. Mr. Bernier will meet with senior Israeli officials, visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial and tour the country by helicopter.

The Foreign Minister of Canada, Mr. Maxim Bernier, arrived yesterday (Saturday, 12 January 2008) on his first official trip to Israel.

During his visit, FM Bernier will meet with Prime Minister Olmert, with Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni, Deputy Minister of Defense Matan Vilnai and with opposition chairman Benjamin Netanyahu. He will also visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial and take a helicopter tour of the country, accompanied by the head of the IDF Planning Branch.

Issues of mutual interest will be discussed during the visit, as well an assessment of the possibility of Canada’s possible integration in the political process.

The visit will provide an opportunity to emphasize the friendly relationship between Israel and Canada and the common view of strategy in both regional and international issues.
