Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni met today (Monday, 15 September 2008) with Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Ángel Moratinos.

During their meeting, FM Livni raised the issue of senior Israeli officials who have been charged in Spain, and the urgent need to deal with the matter.

FM Livni and FM Moratinos also discussed the Palestinian and Iranian issues, prior to the departure of FM Moratinos to Damascus. FM Livni said that "Syria must understand that the smuggling of weapons into Lebanon, apart from the problem it causes Israel and the gross violation of the Security Council resolution, endangers the Lebanese government and the international forces currently in Lebanon. Syria’s route to legitimacy passes through the complete cessation of the smuggling".
