FM Livni told General Jones that a Palestinian state must be able to satisfy Israel’s security needs.

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni met today (11 June) with American envoy General James Jones. FM Livni told the general, "A Palestinian state can only arise if it provides a comprehensive answer to Israel’s security needs, including disarmament, supervision of crossing points and guarantees of Israel’s security interests in every situation." FM Livni also pointed out that "a situation in which the Palestinian state would be a nest of terrorist activity contradicts regional security interests. Such a situation is not only a threat to Israel; it is in complete opposition to the American interest."
