In a friendly meeting with Turkish Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul, FM Livni stressed the importance of international action regarding Iran, Syria, and Hizbullah.

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni met with Turkish Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul on Thursday, October 30, at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem. FM Livni praised the relations between the two states and the strategic cooperation that exists in many realms.
In the context of the Iranian threat, Minister Livni talked about the importance of international action and opined that Security Council initiatives are not enough. She expressed Israel’s displeasure regarding the Iranian president’s visit to Turkey and reiterated that international pressure must continue to be applied against Iran and its president. Minister Livni called for more decisive action on the part of the Turkish government to isolate Iran in the international arena.
Minister Livni acknowledged Turkey’s contribution to the indirect negotiations with Syria. She condemned the continuing arms smuggling from Syria to the Hizbullah and again called for international pressure on Syria to stop the smuggling.
Minister Gonul expressed satisfaction with the military cooperation existing between the two states and thanked Israel for its support of Turkey in its candidacy for the Security Council.
