The Cabinet held a special meeting to approve the necessary steps following the resignation of Labor Party ministers Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, Yitzhak Herzog and Avishay Braverman from the Government.

The Cabinet today (Wednesday), 19 January 2011, held a special meeting to approve the necessary steps following the resignation of Labor Party ministers Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, Yitzhak Herzog and Avishay Braverman from the Government and regarding two new ministers – Matan Vilnai and Orit Noked – joining the  Government.
 
A.  The Cabinet noted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement that the membership of the ministers mentioned below ended after they submitted to him their letters of resignation on 17 January 2011, between 14:00-15:00, pursuant to Article 22(a) of Basic Law: The Government: Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer (Industry, Trade and Labor), Minister Yitzhak Herzog (Social Affairs and Social Services) and Minister Avishay Braverman.
 
Cabinet Secretary Tzvi Hauser notified the Cabinet – in writing – of the foregoing on 17 January 2011.
 
Pursuant to Article 9(a) of Basic Law: The Government, the Knesset will be duly notified of the foregoing.
 
B. Pursuant to Article 26 of Basic Law: The Government, the Cabinet notes that MK Orit Noked ceased her tenure as Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor on 19 January 2011, when Binyamin Ben-Eliezer’s resignation from the Government takes effect.
 
Pursuant to Article 26 of Basic Law: The Government, the Cabinet notes that MK Matan Vilnai has ceased his tenure as Deputy Defense Minister.
 
Pursuant to Article 9(a) of Basic Law: The Government, the Knesset will be duly notified of the foregoing.
 
C. Pursuant to Article 15 of Basic Law: The Government, the Cabinet co-opts MK Orit Noked and MK Matan Vilnai as ministers.
 
Pursuant to Article 31 of Basic Law: The Government, the Cabinet decides:
 
* Minister Shalom Simhon will be Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor, instead of Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, and will also be responsible for Minority Affairs;
 
* Minister Matan Vilnai will be Minister for Home Front Defense;
 
* Minister Orit Noked will be Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
 
Pursuant to Articles 15 and 31 of Basic Law: The Government, the Knesset will be duly notified of the foregoing.
 
Pursuant to Article 24 of Basic Law: The Government, Communications Minister Moshe Kahlon will also serve as Acting Minister of Social Affairs and Social Services, for a period not to exceed three months.
 
Pursuant to Article 9 of Basic Law: The Government, the Knesset will be duly notified of the foregoing.
