On Sunday, 5 June, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon addressed the opening of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS). Attending the summit are foreign ministers from 35 Latin American countries and delegates from 40 additional countries with observer status in the OAS.
In his speech, DFM Ayalon urged all responsible states to object to the Palestinians’ unilateral move planned for September at the UN. This move will deepen the conflict and goes against the interests of all the states in the region. Ayalon said that all states that aspire to peace must support the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian problem through dialogue.
DFM Ayalon spoke about the cooperation existing between Israel and the Latin American countries and Israel’s unique contribution to the advancement of agriculture, internal security, women empowerment and medicine in Latin America.
Ayalon has met with the foreign ministers of Belize, Honduras, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic, all of whom expressed their sympathy and understanding of Israel’s position vis-à-vis the Palestinian moves.
The deputy foreign minister plans to meet with about another 20 foreign ministers during the summit.
