President Shimon Peres will this evening (Monday), 21 November 2011, leave on the first, historic, visit by an Israeli president to Vietnam, at the invitation of Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang. President Peres will lead a 60-member security and industrial delegation, including representatives of leading Israeli firms in the fields of infrastructure, communications, finance, high-tech, water technology and agriculture. Science and Technology Minister Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz, Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Orit Noked and Manufacturers Association President Shraga Brosh will accompany the President.
 
The visit, to be held from November 21-27, will be the first state visit by a senior Israeli official since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1993 and will take place with full ceremony. President Peres will meet with senior Vietnamese officials, including President Truong Tan San, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Defence Minister Gen. Phung Quang Tranh.

President Peres will discuss with his hosts recent developments in the Middle East, as well as how to realize the potential for bilateral economic and technological cooperation. Among the bilateral agreements due to be signed are a financial protocol, a shipping agreement and an agreement between the countries’ respective chambers of commerce.

From 21-27 November 2011, Israeli President Shimon Peres conducted an official visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at the invitation of the State President Truong Tan Sang.

During his stay in Vietnam, President Shimon Peres held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart and met with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, as well as with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung.

Israeli President Shimon Peres and President Truong Tan San attended the signing ceremony of cooperation documents between Israel and Vietnam, including a maritime transport agreement and financial cooperation protocol. The two countries’ leaders expressed their gratification at the development of the multi-faceted bilateral cooperation to date. Agreeing that cooperation between Vietnam and Israel is yet to achieve its full potential, they affirmed their resolve to continue to enhance and further develop these relations in the future, especially in science, technology, agriculture, trade, investment and tourism. They agreed to establish a joint intergovernmental committee in the near future.

The leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues and expressed their wish to enhance the exchange of information, actively contributing to joint efforts for peace, stability, cooperation and development.

President Shimon Peres invited President Sang to pay a visit to Israel. President Sang accepted the invitation with pleasure and the visit will be arranged through diplomatic channels.
