This is Dr. Pillay’s first visit to Israel as High Commissioner.

Dr. Navanethem Pillay, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights is visiting Israel from 6-11 February 2011. 

The High Commissioner will hold a series of meetings during her visit to Israel, including with President Shimon Peres, Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor, Minister of Justice Yaakov Neeman, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon, President of the Supreme Court Justice Dorit Beinisch, members of the Knesset, and senior military officials.
 
Commissioner Pillay will visit Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust History Museum, where she will lay a wreath in the Hall of Remembrance, the Knesset and Sderot, the target of many rocket attacks from Gaza. She will also meet the family of Gilad Shalit, the young abducted soldier being held in Gaza since 2006, in their protest tent.
