Israel to sign memo of understanding with UNIDO

On Monday afternoon, May 14, 2012, a memorandum of agreement will be signed at the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs between MASHAV, Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, and UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization).

In accordance with Israel’s goal of increasing its involvement in the work of the United Nations and to advance the millennium development goals, this memorandum of agreement will deepen cooperation between Israel and the United Nations in the areas of food security, water management, women empowerment and industrial development in Africa and developing countries, within the framework of UNIDO.

Deputy Director General for MASHAV Daniel Carmon and UNIDO Director General Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella will sign the memorandum in a ceremony presided over by Foreign Ministry Director General Rafael Barak.

Dr. Yumkella, who is visiting Israel for the first time as an official guest of the Foreign Ministry, will be a guest of honor at the Agritech Israel 2012 exhibition (15-17 May) as well as the International CIPA Conference 2012, held once every three years, this year devoted to Plastics in Agriculture. Dr. Yumkella will also meet with Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Orit Noked and will visit the various MASHAV extensions.
