Early this morning (Tuesday), 8 May 2012, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu phoned President Shimon Peres, who is currently on a state visit to Canada, and informed him about the discussions and the decision to forge a national unity government.
President Peres congratulated Prime Minister Netanyahu on the decision and said that a national unity government is good for the people of Israel and that the good of the state, in light of the crucial challenges facing it, requires broad national unity.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke last night with President Shimon Peres and updated him on the decision to form a broad national unity government. The prime minister said, "Unity restores stability. A broad national unity government is good for security, good for the economy and good for the people of Israel."
PM Netanyahu and Kadima Chairman MK Shaul Mofaz held a press conference at 12:00, at the Knesset.
On Wednesday, May 9, Kadima Chairman Shaul Mofaz was sworn in at the Knesset as Vice Prime Minister and Minister in the national unity government.
