The Knesset marked Heath Day on Tuesday, and over 200 people, including Health Minister Yael German (Yesh Atid), MKs, Knesset employees and people who came to the Knesset to take part in committee hearings received free examinations by eye doctors, cardiologists and dermatologists in special booths that were set up in the parliament building. EKG and blood pressure tests were also offered, free of charge.
Health Day, an initiative of the Israeli Medical Association, was also the main topic at the Knesset committees today. The Finance Committee discussed ways to entice medical professionals to move to the periphery in order to increase the equality within the health system.
The Constitution, Law and Justice Committee discussed a national plan to promote healthy lifestyles, while the Committee on the Rights of the Child discussed the possibility of putting the state back in charge of student health care services.
The Lobby for Equality in Health held a celebratory meeting with the participation of Knesset Speaker Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, during which Prof. Avinoam Reches, Chairperson of the IMA`s Ethics Bureau, discussed the doctor–patient relationship. Later on Tuesday the Knesset plenum was scheduled to hold a special session dedicated to motions for the agenda related to health.
