Today, June 5 2012, the Knesset will mark International Earth Day, including discussions on a variety of ecological topics in the committees, the Knesset Plenum and in a special conference with the environmental lobby.

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin will participate in a special Knesset discussion with the environmental-social lobby, led by Knesset Members Dov Hanin (Hadash) and Nitzan Horovitz (Meretz), dedicated to ocean and coastal threats.

Knesset Committees will hold discussions devoted to Earth Day: the Finance Committee, led by MK Moshe Gafni (Yahadut Hatorah) will discuss the environmental behavior of government companies; the Education Committee led by MK Alex Miller (Yisrael Beitenu) will discuss environmental education programs; the Internal Affairs and Environment Committee led by MK Amnon Cohen (Shas) will discuss illegal hunting and mistreatment of wildlife; the Committee on the Rights of the Child led by MK Zevulon Orlov (Habayit Hayehudi) will discuss environmental hazards and their affect on children; the Science and Technology Committee led by MK Ronit Tirosh (Kadima) will discuss biological pathogens.

Bills and calls for agendas on environmental topics will be raised in the Knesset Plenum.
