A joint Chamber Music Project between the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest was initiated by Israel’s Ambassador to Hungary, Ilan Mor. The first workshop was held in Jerusalem in December 2012, and the reciprocal visit was held in Budapest in February 2014.

The President of the Jerusalem Academy, Prof. Yinam Leef, also a prominent composer, headed the Israeli delegation to Budapest, accompanied by nine outstanding music students and four teachers. At the conclusion of the week-long seminar, the students of both academies performed two joint concerts, the first at the Kodály Center in Pécs (about two hours south of Budapest) and the second in the concert hall of the Franz Liszt Academy. The fnial concert, under the patronage of Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi, marked the 25th anniversary of the renewal of diplomatic relations between Hungary and the State of Israel.

The Dean of the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts in Pécs expressed the hope that a similar joint project could be established between his institution and the Jerusalem Academy. Ambassador Mor dreams of an exchange program for young Israeli and Hungarian chess players. He spoke also of the growing interest in Hungarian literature in Israel, and noted that works of Hebrew literature have been translated and published in Hungarian.
