Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Immigrant Absorption Minister Ze’ev Boim today (Wednesday), attended a Knesset reception for World War II Red Army veterans ).

Prime Minister Olmert welcomed the veterans and said: “You are a living heritage of one of the most dramatic and significant chapters in the history of the Jewish People – not just the chapter of the Holocaust but the chapter of heroism, and not just the losses but also the revival.  250,000 Jews gave their lives as Allied fighters in the effort to defeat the Nazis.  I am very pleased that I can host here those who were partners in this struggle and who are living here in the State of Israel.”

Immigrant Absorption Minister Boim said that, “The State of Israel owes a national debt to the veterans whose heroism constitutes a torch in whose light we walk.  The Government of Israel has a duty to preserve this glorious heritage.”
