Israel Model UN marks tenth anniversary

The Model UN program was first established in Israel in 2006 on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’s Division for the UN and International Organizations, in cooperation with the Hebrew University High School and the Jerusalem Board of Education. The project fosters excellence, with the participation this year of 200 students from 15 high schools in the city, religious and secular, Jews and Arabs.

The two-day conference, to be held this week at the Yitzhak Rabin Youth Hostel in Jerusalem, is the culmination of a process of education. The students are trained to represent the various states in discussions on issues on the international agenda that are dealt with by the various UN committees.

The tenth anniversary of the program will be celebrated at a festive opening ceremony to be held at the Israel Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, February 23, 2016.
