Sha`ar Hanegev Regional Council head Alon Schuster appeared before the Education, Culture and Sports Committee on Wednesday and complained to its members about the situation of day care centers and kindergartens in Gaza-vicinity communities. He said many day care centers are still awaiting fortification, and in the current situation they will not be able to admit children in the upcoming school year.

Schuster called to immediately budget the fortification of educational institutions in communities located near the border with Gaza, in accordance with the guidelines of the IDF Home Front Command.

MK Haim Jelin (Yesh Atid), one of the lawmakers who initiated the meeting, said Gaza-vicinity communities cannot be turned into army bases, adding that the fortification of educational institutions will not be possible without the assistance of government offices.

MK Yehuda Glick (Likud), also among the lawmakers who initiated the debate, said the Gaza-vicinity communities serve as the ”southern security belt of the State of Israel, and therefore we must see to it that no one there will feel anxious and want to leave.”

Addressing the representatives of the Economy Ministry, Committee Chairman MK Yakov Margi (Shas) said, ”Don`t work only on the 2017 budget. Work to pass a government decision to fortify daycares and kindergartens according to the demographic growth.”
