Following a request by the Ministry of Health’s Enforcement and Supervision Department regarding the installation of vending machines for the sale of tobacco products, an enforcement operation was carried out to remove the machines in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Protection and supervision in the city of Beit Shemesh. In the enforcement operation, the machines appear to be located in a public area (on sidewalks, near shops).
As a result of the enforcement process, orders were issued for removal of all the machines by inspectors of the Department of Abundance and Supervision, subject to the order to remove hand and to evacuate public lands, the Public Land Law (Evacuation of Land), 5741-1981.
In accordance with the amendment to the Restricting Advertising and Marketing of Tobacco Products Act of August 2011, it is forbidden to place a machine for the sale of tobacco products, including cigarettes, as of January 1, 2014
The placing of a cigarette sales machine is a violation of section 7B of the Restricting Advertising and Marketing of Tobacco Products Law, 5743-1983.
These machines are a convenient means of purchasing cigarettes for the public in general and for minors in particular, so it is very important to remove these machines.
We thank the representatives of the Municipality of Beit Shemesh for the cooperation and determination to enforce the laws for the welfare and health of the youth in Beit Shemesh.
The public is invited to contact and report by email firstname.lastname@example.org or Facebook about the existence of vending machines.
Preference shall be given to detail reporting containing a complete address and a picture of the sale of tobacco products.
The Ministry of Health will act in cooperation with the relevant local authority and the necessary steps will be taken according to any law.
