Deputy Foreign Minister, Dr. Yossi Beilin, stated in an interview on IDF Radio on June 12, 1994, that Israel supports the international sanctions against Iraq, and that Israel sees a danger in an Iraq that is not subject to inspection. ‘Israel is one of the nations that considers the American policy of double containment, against both Iraq and Iran, a great blessing. We are not interested in being the country to grant them acceptance into the Western world,’ said Beilin. The Deputy Foreign Minister added that to the extent that Iraq complies with the UN guidelines and changes its policies, Israel will change its attitude accordingly. ‘There is no doubt that things change and regimes change; and if [Iraqi] policy changes, our attitude will surely change,’ concluded Dr. Beilin.
