CABINET COMMUNIQUE

At the weekly Cabinet meeting today, (Sunday), 05.06.94:

1. Within the framework of the Ministerial Committee on National Security, the Chief of Staff, the Police Inspector-General, and the Coordinator of Activities in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza briefed the Cabinet on on-going matters.

2. The Foreign Minister briefed the Cabinet on his visit to the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and Morocco. The Foreign Minister pointed out that the peace process and the Israeli-Palestinian arrangement are helping to prepare favorable ground for enhancing these countries’ relations with Israel and that there is great appreciation in these countries for for Israel’s achievements in agriculture, technology, and its defense industries. In Morocco, it was agreed that an economic conference would meet there in late October or early November, with Israel’s participation. It was also agreed that a committee on anti-desertification would be set up and that the two countries would open postal, telecommunications, and tourist links.

3. The Cabinet agreed on a series of measures to deal with the crisis in the Histadrut’s Kupat Holim sick fund, including a bridging loan of NIS 400 million.

4. The Cabinet approved a plan to market 7,500 housing units in high- demand areas to those eligible for Construction and Housing Ministry- guaranteed mortgages.
